On Wings Like an Eagle

On Wings Like an Eagle

Devotional#6: 25 January 2017
“Comfort for God's People"

It is easy to fall into worried stress filled thoughts.

The Eagle is an often quoted Biblical word picture that is frequently used to remind us to recognize the eternal strength of our great God.  Even some who infrequently attend church have heard the familiar passage from the Book of Isaiah.

“…they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles…”

Few stop to think about what the rest of the passage is trying to express.

Consider the first verse of the passage:

“Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.”

Interestingly, Isaiah is written at a time shortly before the coming Judgement of Israel when they will be taken into Babylonian captivity.  The Spirit is inspiring Isaiah to understand, as we all should, that while God sometimes ordains great trials and judgements, He is ALWAYS using them for His predesigned purpose and plan.  Isaiah reminds us that we will eventually get to see His plan unfold and that it, like our Creator, is Awesome.

“And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken."

He goes on to say that:

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

God’s Word Will Stand Forever

Last time Christ came, He came as a meek, tiny baby.  He lived a perfect life on our behalf so that He could be the Ultimate Sacrifice, sufficient for the Work that His Father had commissioned Him to accomplish during His stay.  Some Great and Glorious time later, when only God the Father knows, Christ will return.  At that moment, all of Creation will:

”Behold [our] God!" Behold, the Lord God comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.”

On that day… “they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles.”

So, every day between this day and that one, take Comfort in the fact that God’s Word stands Forever, that He will return to tend His flock, and that those who wait for Him will mount up with wings like Eagles!  What a glorious day that will be.

Here at The Humble Ant, we hope that you will stop and watch the large wings of the Eagle during your next sighting and that you will use it as an opportunity to share His great and eternal Comfort with someone nearby!
